Thread: proto needs help

hi all, i have been very un-active recently, its because i have had a major virus and my dad had to get my comp reparied, in doing this, i lost all my files (even cod ones). the problem is, my disk drive doesnt work and hasnt for a long time. so i cant access cod4 as it needs re-installing. so i buy a new game in steam and down load that (22 hrs of downloading)! but when i spay it it seems to work fine, it asks if i want to play in safe mode, and asks about my optimal settings ect. but then it says;

directX has encountered an unreccoverable error. please check the "readme" for possible sollutions.

so i looked at the cod4 readme and it told me to download the directx upgrade. i did this but it asked me where to place the files. i chose the cod4 folder but it still has the same error message. now im stuck.

and ideas?

P.S iv only been able to check the site through my phone as my internet hasnt been working either, thats obviously ok now, but i want cod4 back =(, again im very sorry for my inactivity.

we need yuo bakc on servers m8 fun server has lately been having alot of hackers ;D

That's what I did, I googled it and downloaded it from the
Microsoft home page, then it asked where to place the files so I put it in cod4 folder, but still nothing, just checked and it is definatly directX 9.0c and that's why I'm stuck

Make a new folder anywhere. Call it Directx. Download the files and put them in that folder. Then open the folder you created and run the files.

i cant buy a new copy as my disk drive doesnt read discs, so i can only play through steam or torrent - but im not downloading torrents

i have tried to reinstall dx 9.0c and saved the files in C:\Windows\System32, however it is still giving me the "unreccoverable error" message and i still cannot play cod. i have gone through read me and nothing is wrong, i have tried to reinstall through steam, and still wont work. should pb files be in the system32 folder as well? and is there anything u guys could reccomend?
