    Religions

Okay, cause of the anti-islam dude. Some of us had a little discussion about religions. I would like to continue here.

    Just a few rules.
    - No racism
    - Keep it civil
    - Stay ontopic(so only post about the discussion)
Violating of these rules can result in infractions.

Okay I am a Atheist and I don't believe in religions. Although I don't believe in religions with bad history violent rules. So Buddhism is great in my opinion. I completely understand if people believe in god but I can't believe why people believe in the religion who has a violent history and conned millions of people.

I'm an Atheist too, and an Archaeology/history student.

My opinion on religion is quite simple: it was yesterday's "science". What we are explaining now with the use of modern tools and science, was explained in the past with the Bible, Coran, or whatever other holy book. It was the only way of understanding the universe, the meaning of all of it.

Religion itself is not bad, the original and deeper message conveyed by it (and this is valid for any of them, Christian - Islam - ...) was even good. many of our basic laws are also declared as important in religion, although, these "rules" probably existed before them.

The only thing the Anti-Islam guy showed today is his total ignorance about the subject, even though he might know some things about it. The only fact he is 19 (my age!) shocked me even more, but then again, there's still 50+ years old that believe dinosaurs were human's pets.

ANY religion attracts misunderstandings, jealousy, etc. and every religion, how pacific it might be, has a past of violence. Christians were no better than todays 'islamic' terrorrists, just think of the millions of deaths in the Crusades. Nazis were christians, and Hitler himself was convinced that God was on his side when he did what he did.

Yes, currently Islam has a bad reputation. Why? Because it's more interesting for news to tell "Mohammed has bombed another school today" than "ahmed is a normal guy living his life just like we all do".

Quite a bunch of Atheists we are. Me too.

First off, +rep for that post GalakFyarr.

I am not at all against religions, I believe they are good, they give people hope, when they most need it, give others a routine and a meaning.

I totally agree what you have said about bad reputations, etc.. the media is too loud and the public too easily influenced

I'm a scientist, I do believe there is something... My belief would be Ietsism (close to Atheism)(see: Ietsism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
    Now.. my thoughts on this.

As my fellow Belgian stated, they just got a bad rep...
They killed many people for their belief, and it is the only religion that has something called the 'Jihad'

But think back in the Middle Ages where the Christians fought for their beliefs in the crusades.

These religions just try to protect their faiths, and most of the times it are those people who have nothing to believe in than in their religion.
And therefore want to protect it with everything they've got. These ppl do stupid things like 9/11.

    My thoughts,
    Alex

P.S.: Be careful with topics as these, my clan lost a great amount of members cuz of a similar "discussion" ( this is sensitive shit )

Disagree with that. I think it's the believing in god what gives them the hope not the religion.

    I am agnostic.
That means i dont personally belive in a higher power but im not close minded, i dont personally belive in it but i am open to it exsisting.
It literally means without knowledge on the subject of religion.
The people who believe in those religions are willing to overlook any atricities that they have commited in their blind fath that they will be saved.
It is the extremists who give the religion a bad name, in the case of islam
The number one sin is to kill an innocent person.
the way that the extremists judge this is that the ppl that dont belive in their religion are unholy and against Mohammed's teachings they are rewarded for killing them

I think the fact of a lot of people believing in the same thing, or having the group can give hope, just as well as a god.

I'm a Protestant, at least official. I'm not really active in church (in fact I wasnt there for quite a long time) and I wouldn't say I believe in god. Actually I do believe there is "something", call it god, allah or "something no1 really knows about but still might exist". As I'm actually interested in science, I dont believe that god has created the universe and stuff, but as Galak has already pointed out, that was former people's attempt to explain the world. As most people here I dont really care about other religions. I dont prefer christians to muslims. I respect everyone's religion.
It's actually a shame how the media makes the religion responsible for terroristic attacks as only like 0.01% are really terrorists. I think, today we made a big step forward, concerning freedom in religion. Just about 70years ago it was different, at least here in Germany.

It is nice to see that more and more people are awakening and start to think about things around them. Many of you called yourself atheist, protestant etc... And actually i dont know what am i... Well ill say i am going on my soul road and i believe in many things. Yes... modern religion isnt the best thing... modern religions are going now the wrong way and it is used to manipulate. But most i like Buddhism... but... i studied about these things a lot and ill say that Buddhism isnt a religion it is a way of life and not believieng in some GODS that exists ofcourse if u want them to exist. But what i think about the GOD(s)? I believie... no... i know that EVERYONE, EVERYTHING IS A GOD and EVERYONE, EVERYTHING IS A CREATOR... AND EVERYONE, EVERYTHING IS ONE AND INFINITE. But that is ofcourse me not you... im not forcing u to believe this or something.... i have studied and meditated a lot and its not so easy to understand this so fast.

And i can give u an interesting video about what is happenning around this time and why and something like that... there are 4 parts... so if u have nothing to do and blahblahblah u can watch this...
